What does Shopify SEO involve?

Shopify SEO is the work of making a Shopify store's product and collection pages rank in search and get cited by AI assistants. Shopify already handles the fundamentals - speed, crawlability, an automatic sitemap - so the work concentrates on what the platform does not solve: product pages carrying the manufacturer's text, collection pages that do not match what customers search for, duplicate URLs the platform generates by design, and apps that slow the storefront down. On a store of any size this is API work, not admin work.

The problems built into Shopify stores

Every product has two addresses

Shopify serves each product at /products/handle and again at /collections/x/products/handle. Canonicals usually point the right way, but internal links, sitemaps and apps regularly disagree - and the split costs you.

Manufacturer copy on every product

The same description as every other retailer selling the item. Nothing for Google to prefer and nothing for an assistant to quote. At catalog scale this is the biggest single opportunity in most stores.

Filters and sorting multiply URLs

Collection filtering generates near-duplicate pages by the hundred. Left alone they soak up crawl budget that should be going to the pages you actually want indexed.

Apps quietly tax the storefront

Every app adds scripts. A store running a dozen of them loads far more than it needs to on mobile, which is where most of the buying happens.

How we work on a Shopify catalog

Everything goes through the official Shopify Admin API. We read the full catalog, generate product and collection titles, descriptions, metafields and structured data, and have a specialist review and approve the pattern before a single write goes out. Then the approved batch is written back and read again from the live storefront - because the API returning success is not evidence that the theme rendered it.

That means no copy-paste sessions in the admin, no unreviewed AI output going live, and no ticket queue waiting on a developer. It also means the work is reversible: every change is scripted, so it can be rolled back the same way it was applied.

Stores that are not in English

Most Shopify SEO advice assumes an English catalog on an English theme. A lot of our work is the opposite case, and it is genuinely different: a Hebrew catalog inside a left-to-right theme breaks in ways no checklist covers, and a store selling across several European markets needs hreflang, per-market canonicals and locale-aware structured data rather than a translated template.

We run stores in Hebrew and right-to-left layouts, and we work with European-language catalogs for clients selling into more than one market. If your store is multilingual and your current agency keeps handing you advice written for a US-only shop, that is the gap.

Proof, not promises

On one store we found 42 sold-out products still pulling organic and AI Overview traffic and shipped the fix the same day. On a US client, ChatGPT now sends the highest-converting traffic on the site.

What it costs

Monthly retainers run from $550 to $3,250, set by catalog size and competition rather than by a package tier. A store with a few dozen products sits at the low end; thousands of SKUs sit at the top, because the catalog is what decides how much work there is each month.

We connect to your Search Console and Analytics before quoting. Full published pricing is here, and if you are on another platform, our general ecommerce SEO page covers it.

Frequently asked questions about Shopify SEO

What is Shopify SEO?

Shopify SEO is the work of making a Shopify store's product and collection pages rank in search and get cited by AI assistants. Shopify handles the basics well - it is fast, it generates a sitemap and it is crawlable out of the box - so the work concentrates on the three things it does not solve: duplicated product copy, collection pages that do not match real searches, and the duplicate URLs the platform creates by design.

Does Shopify have built-in SEO problems?

A few structural ones. Every product is reachable at both /products/handle and /collections/x/products/handle, which splits signals unless canonicals are right. Collection filtering and sorting generate large numbers of near-duplicate URLs. Apps inject scripts that slow the storefront. None of these are fatal and all of them are fixable, but they do not fix themselves.

How do you edit thousands of products on Shopify?

Through the official Shopify Admin API. We read the catalog, generate titles, descriptions, metafields and structured data, have a specialist review and approve the pattern, then write the approved batch back and verify it rendered on the live storefront. No copy-paste in the admin, and no unreviewed AI output going live.

Can you work on a store that is not in English?

Yes, and it is one of the things we are known for. We run Hebrew and right-to-left Shopify stores, where an English theme meets a Hebrew catalog and most of the usual advice simply does not apply, and we work with European-language catalogs for clients selling across several markets. Multilingual stores need hreflang, per-market canonicals and locale-aware structured data, not a translated template.
